The Bode Valley
Legendary Knight Bodo who made an unsuccessful jump over the canyon as an importunate suitor to the princess Brunhild, and plunged into the depths whilst the pretty maiden’s horse brought her safely to the other side, has given his name to the river that runs through the valley. Between the valley, that is in close proximity to Quedlinburg and Treseburg, the Bode valley is a more than 400 feet deep gorge, which makes each visitor marvel. In tight curves it winds through the hillsides and rocky cliffs. At six miles the trail follows the Bode river run. And names such as "witches dancing place" or "Devil's Bridge" or "Ross Trappe” accompany the walkers through the nature preserve and emphasize the claim of the highly romantic Bodetal valley. And Knight Bodo, transformed into a black dog is sitting down in the Bode river and guarded the crown of Brunhild, where she jumped over the canyon.
